Thickness is not an isolated specification. Evaluate 12mm, 14mm and 16mm together with the core, shape, weight, handle proportion, face material and target player, then validate the decision through samples.
Start with the target player and product position
Entry, recreation, advanced and competitive products prioritize control, feedback, weight and forgiveness differently. Thickness should support the intended product position rather than follow a market label by itself.
Evaluate thickness together with core and shape
Two 16mm paddles can behave differently when core density, paddle shape, edge structure and face materials change. Confirm overall dimensions, weight range and structural combination at the same time.
Weight and handle proportion matter
A thickness change can affect structure and weight distribution. During sampling, record finished weight, handle dimensions, balance feel and critical tolerances instead of approving the sample only because it measures 16mm.
Use samples to make the final decision
If the specification is still open, compare several thickness samples using the same shape and similar materials. Then select the production version based on the target market and actual evaluation feedback.
